The Executive Council of American Friends of Ateret Cohanim expresses its gratitude to the President and the government of the United States of America
Its time for ALL to remember Our Jerusalem.
From the moment our forefather Abraham looked afar at Mt Moriah with his son Isaac, Jerusalem has been the focal point of our aspirations, dreams, traditions, prayers and longings. This was 3800 years ago, and ever since we have had an unbreakable connection to the city. 3000 years ago, King David made "her" the eternal capital of the Jewish State for the Jewish people. We have made many sacrifices for the city over the centuries, and have even lost her to a host of rampaging conquerors, but we have never forgotten. "Leshana Habaa Be'Yerushalayim" has been the ongoing prayer and “Im Eshkachech Yerushalayim (If I forget thee, O Jerusalem) has been the solemn vow of our people through the 2000 years of dispersion, since the destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman Empire.
In the modern era, our people saw near annihilation during the Holocaust, but then joyous rebirth. From the four corners of the world, Jews began to return home on "wings of eagles", and we were all inspired by the miracle of the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Then 50 years ago in 1967, we witnessed the 2000 year old dream fulfilled with the reunification of our holy capital. Today, at 1PM, December 6, 2017, 18 (Chai) Kislev, 5778 under the leadership of President Trump and the bi-partisan efforts of both Democrats and Republicans, the United States has finally agreed to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to the one eternal capital of our people, Jerusalem.
Thank you President Trump for recognizing our 3800 year bond to the city of Jerusalem. Thank you Senators, thank you Congressmen, and thank you fellow citizens of the United States for your unwavering support.
American Friends of Ateret Cohanim has long championed the unity of Jerusalem. Our donors have encouraged us by their generosity to go forward and never waiver. And we have never let them down and we will never let Jerusalem down. We promise to continue our mission “To strengthen Jewish roots and life, in and around the Old City of Jerusalem".
We will never waiver from the words of the prophet Zechariah (8:5) who proclaimed - “And the streets of the city shall be filled, with boys and girls playing in its streets”.
President Trump has acted, and now the time has come for ALL people who love Jerusalem and who recognize our bond with the city, to act and help keep a united Jerusalem in Jewish hands.
